This residence pays homage to the Craftsman tradition of the early 1900’s with its simple form, use of natural materials, and original details. Sited on three acres in the Santa Monica Mountains, this family home exudes warmth and creativity. The design takes full advantage of the expansive site and is purposefully arranged to allow the residents to fully experience the views as well as the architecture. At the center is the stone hearth – an integral part of a home and a symbol of family. Yet here, the traditional fireplace also serves as a dramatic, great wall that extends vertically through the second floor and roof, and horizontally, penetrating the exterior wall to become a part of the landscape.
